I created this page on the 4th July 2024, for visitors to a couple of local classic motorcycle rallies, being held at the Tynedale Rugby Club. The information was correct at that point, to the best of my knowledge.

Note: this is for information purposes only and is provided on an ‘as-is’ basis.

Hotels

The first two are known and recommended by me:

The Golden Lion (57) has 5 (maybe 6 soon) recently refurbished rooms. Prices are £100 or so per night. Their website is at: https://www.goldenlioncorbridge.com. There is a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552104171903 Great food and drink too.

The hotel does not have any secure parking per se, but there is a beer garden at the back which they might let you use…I haven’t asked! Great food and drink.

Telephone number 01434 239348

The Angel Inn (11) has 11 rooms priced from £110. The Angel has an excellent reputation, good food and a friendly bar. Their website is at: https://www.theangelofcorbridge.com/

The Angel has its own car park at the rear…you should be able to park your bike there and secure it…check with them directly.

Telephone number 01434 632119

The remainder I have no personal knowledge of.

The Dyvels Inn (69) has 5 rooms and parking at the front plus a beer garden which they may let you use. However, it is right next to the rugby club so you may not need secure parking…leave your bike(s) with a mate who’s camping. Their rooms are from around £60 and I hear mixed reviews. Bar food and drinks available.

Their website is at https://www.thedyvelsinn.com/ but the telephone number on their site and social media accounts was incorrect when I tried it.

Telephone number 0333 366 0104

The Wheatsheaf (45) has 4 rooms I believe. The hotel has recently changed hands and has a large car park. I’d suggest calling them to see if you can use one of their garages for your bike. The dining and bar areas look excellent so I suspect the rooms may be good too. Prices were again, from around £100 a night.

Their website is at: https://www.wheatsheafhotelcorbridge.com/

Telephone number 07706 432969

Travelodge Hexham has many rooms; I couldn’t find out how many when I looked. They started at £40 a night when I checked and I’m sure they are like many other Travelodge hotels, except this is a fairly new hotel. It’s about 4 miles from the rugby club and I’m not aware of any secure parking.

Bed and Breakfast in Corbridge

There are several in the village and I have never used any of them. That said, I’ve only heard good things about them. Here is a list with website or social media links and a phone number, if available. Most will only have on street parking, but you could ask if they have a garden or garage you could use for your bike.

Bridge End Cottage (A) is on the map but is reported as PERMANENTLY CLOSED on social media.

Bridge House Cottages (B) looks rather nice and has a website at https://bridgehouse.uk.com/ They are located on the north side of the bridge and have a yard through the archway which may offer secure parking…ask them. Telephone 01434 632639

Fellcroft B&B (C) is located very near the rugby club and has two rooms apparently. Their website is naff, but is at http://www.fellcroftbandb.com/ Telephone 01434 632384

Mr Fogg’s Self-Catering Cottage (D) also looks rather nice but has no secure parking, just street parking as far as I’m aware. The website is at https://mrfoggs.co.uk/ Telephone 01434 634692

22a Hill Street Self-Catering (E) this has its own private parking and the web page is here https://www.visitcorbridge.co.uk/business/holiday-lets/22a-hill-street/ Telephone number 01865 390817

Peartree House B&B (F) looks quite nice and claims ‘not to cost the earth’. It might have secure parking too. The website is at https://www.peartreebedandbreakfast.com/  Telephone number 01434 632223

9 Watling Street Self-Catering (G) is in the heart of the village. The website is at www.9watlingstreet.co.uk which upset my computer security as it isn’t ‘https’ so you have been warned. Telephone number 07712 045198

The Stanners Studio is right next to the rugby club and may have secure parking too. The website is at https://www.thestanners.co.uk/ Telephone number 07908 881315

The Old Exchange is on Hill Street, in the middle of the village. They might have parking at the back. The website is at https://www.theoldexchangecorbridge.com/ Telephone number 07989 535464

Bluebell Cottage is in the heart of the village and claims to have on-site parking. I can’t find a dedicated website for the cottage or a phone number, but it’s on many cottage rental websites. Here’s one https://www.cottages.com/cottages/bluebell-cottage-cc334054

April Cottage, Self-Catering is in the middle of the village too and looks very nice. The website is at http://www.aprilcottagecorbridge.co.uk/ Telephone number 07770 864250

There may be others hidden away that I haven’t found, and you could take a look on Airbnb; there were quite a few options when I had a look. The link is a mile long so just go to https://www.airbnb.co.uk/ and search ‘Corbridge’.

Corbridge Cafes

Halcyon Café (formerly Café No 6) and at (31) is my favourite. They serve fantastic snacks and awesome coffee.

The Corbridge Larder (54) is another favourite. Their offerings are similar to Halcyon but they have a bigger kitchen so can provide full meals.

Tea and Tipple (37) also do great snacks, cakes and coffee. Recommended.

Watling Coffee House (46) is another good one which also opens early in the morning.

Spokes Kitchen at (43) and The Emporium Ice Cream Parlour (44) are PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Massey’s Tea Room (21) a traditional tea room.

Petrol

Bishops Garage (9) is a Shell garage and Spar shop. It’s open from early in the morning until around 9pm. They sell E5 and some oils, as well as usual Spar shop stuff.

BP Garage at Hexham Services (not on map, but about 4.3 miles west on the A69 from Corbridge). This garage is open 24 hours, has E5 and E10, and has a well stocked garage shop too. The address is: French Garden Industrial Estate, A6079, Hexham NE46 4DL.

Local Services and Shops

Bishops Garage (9) provides basic garage shop supplies, sandwiches and drinks.

The Coop on Hill Street (56) is a supermarket open from early morning until around 10pm each day. Everything you should need will be there.

The Corbridge Larder and Deli (54) has a great selection of wholefoods, provisions and cheese.

The Corbridge Cookshop (18) has all sorts of things; it’s a proper Aladdin’s cave. They have a variety of tools, screws, nuts and bolts, glue, cleaners, cookware, cups etc… Well worth a visit just for a mooch around. But I warn you, you will buy stuff!

Grants of Corbridge (28) you need to visit this shop…it’s a proper bakers and patisserie which draws people from miles around. You’ve never seen cakes like these.

Corbridge Sandwich Bar (27) open from around midday until mid-afternoon. Great sandwiches to take away.

Boots Chemist (4) a well-stocked chemist should you need one during your stay.

The Paper Shop and Post Office (10) it is what the name suggests…very good it is too.

Pubs

In addition to the hotels at the top of this list, there are some pubs.

The Pele Tower (25) is a micro pub in a Pele Tower, with seating outside. A wonderful place.

The Blue Bell (47) is a popular modern pub serving food.

The Black Bull (15) is also a popular pub serving food; it’s been a Sunday lunch destination for many for years.

Restaurants and Takeaways

Il Piccolo (64) is an amazing Italian restaurant and bar…one of the nicest places to eat you will find.

The Valley (70) is an outstanding Indian restaurant and takeaway…and right next to the rugby club; one of my favourites. They offer a 20% discount from their menu, for takeaway orders.

The Amber Chinese Takeaway (62) a popular Chinese takeaway, next to the CIU Club.

Casa Rosso (66) (Cassia Italian Restaurant on the map) is another popular restaurant and bar in the village.

Corbridge Tandoori (34) a traditional style Indian restaurant and takeaway.

Angelfish (10) was a small fish and chip shop which was CLOSED just after lockdown.

Hand Made Truffles and Coffee

Philip, who owns and runs Coffuffle (22) makes the most amazing handmade truffles and coffee. He’s not usually open on a Sunday, but is usually around from about 10am most other mornings.

Bookshop

Forum Books (24) is one of the best bookshops I’ve come across…they don’t have many motorcycle books, if any, but they have pretty much everything else. They win awards too.

Enjoy…

Corbridge is a popular village with locals and tourists. The shops and other businesses flourish due to their diversity, unique style and the character of the village. You’re here for the motorcycle rally, but if you get a couple of hours to spare, take a look around the village…you may find yourself staying an extra night. Not all non-essential shops are open on a Sunday however. Those that are, open late morning.

I live in Corbridge and have tried to assemble a useful list of services and facilities which you might need for your trip to the rally; I hope you find it useful.
